About Highland Herbs Tasmania
Highland Herbs Tasmania is a family owned and operated enterprise centred on the family farm at Liffey in the great western tiers of Tasmania.
I learned of their work in the area of organic herbs and essential oils through a family connection and became, firstly, a keen user of their products and, then, an avid supporter and marketer of them.
There is a palpable sense of romance about the physical aspects of this enterprise – situated high in rural Tasmania, some 640m above sea level, on over 230 hectares of carefully nurtured farm land – a true family enterprise, owned and managed by Greg and Libby Maulder and (occasionally) their children.
But it is their philosophy that captures me – simply, “TO PRODUCE THE HIGHEST QUALITY CERTIED ORGANICALLY GROWN MEDICINAL HERBAL TEAS POSSIBLE”.
In my view, they have succeeded beyond measure.
This is not your common or garden farming enterprise fully decked out with modern agribusiness methodology and equipment. It is a farm built on a passion for doing it right – with the major elements of production all done by hand – soil preparation, planting, weeding, harvesting, processing and packaging. A key component of this is the care taken to enhance the natural quality of the soil by adding supplements from the sea in order to ensure optimum levels of trace elements – often lacking in Australian farming soils.
Greg Maulder tells me, “We take great joy and fulfilment in working with Nature, growing most of our own food and observing closely Her magical processes. We are pleased to offer our customers some of Her finest bounty.”
